Overview
Finding the best solutions for our everyday needs can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to healthcare options and benefits. Whether choosing an enrollment plan, submitting a claim to understand coverage, or exploring ways to improve physical and mental health, the number of decisions to make can be daunting, often resulting in procrastination.
To address this, we aimed to create a video with clear instructions on using the Cigna One Guide, the virtual healthcare system utilized by Charles River Laboratories employees. This system offers a comprehensive benefits plan covering healthcare, life insurance, prescription drugs, and more.
Charles River Laboratories decided to use this video to help employees navigate the available services effectively.

Story development
Upon receiving the brief, we conducted internal brainstorming sessions to identify the core message, develop storytelling ideas, and determine the animation style. During this collaborative process, I actively contributed ideas and visual concepts to effectively communicate the message.
We decided to tell the story of a mom (Jasmine) having a bad day and trying to address her frustrations by calling Cigna’s customer service. The support representative, Carl, helps answer all her questions and addresses her pain points. The video has a humorous undertone, using day-to-day situations to illustrate the mom’s issues, while giving a human touch to the story, rather than merely listing the available benefits.
Storyboard
Storyboards are essential for supporting the script’s ideas. Once the concept is fully developed, I either sketch it out or design it in its final format, ready for quick export to After Effects for animation.
For this project, our budget and timeline were very limited, so I opted to create the storyboards with the final illustration style intended for the final result.
The final result was very satisfying as a storytelling piece, drawing attention not only to the list of benefits but also to the story arc, humanizing the characters while delivering a high-quality end result.
Storyboards are an essential tool for visually shaping and enhancing narrative concepts.
Characters
As part of my creative process, I developed a versatile vector set of characters that can be customized for various projects. Initially starting with a family, the character set expanded to accommodate different narratives and meet diverse needs.
We ended up with three main characters: the desperate mother, the daughter who adds a humorous twist to the story, and the support representative agent helping her navigate the Cigna plan.
