Overview
ONE-T serves as an Employee Life and Health Trust (ELHT) exclusively for non-union education sector employees in Ontario. Its mission is to provide meaningful and affordable life, dental, and health benefits to employees and their covered dependents, ensuring access to these benefits today and in the future.
Tasked with revamping their previous site, this project demanded the creation of dynamic sections, user access based on categorization, and the integration of a blog to keep members informed.
As plan members, employees play a crucial role in ensuring the sustainability of their benefits and maintaining good health. ONE-T currently serves 8,400 active members, covering 19,485 dependents, with benefit costs totaling $52.3 million.
Two distinctive audiences
The website caters to two primary audiences: Principals/Vice-Principals (P/VP) and CAEAS-ECAB Members.
Principals and vice-principals (P/VP members) play pivotal roles in school leadership, overseeing school improvement and instruction, supporting special education programs, managing staff, facilities, and community relations, all of which significantly impact students’ education.
ECAB (Education Council of Associations for Benefits) represents non-unionized employees in the education sector, ensuring their voices are heard in the establishment and governance of the ELHT.
To enhance content management efficiency, we utilized the Elementor builder, enabling easy theme customization for ONE-T. This user-friendly tool allows for seamless content updates without coding knowledge, enabling editors to create bilingual pages effortlessly.
Technical challenges
Despite maintaining a cohesive visual identity, the website needed to provide distinct content paths for each audience without requiring login. This challenge was compounded by limited access to the WordPress CMS backend, necessitating creative solutions for bilingual content delivery and audience-specific navigation.
Additionally, implementing search and taxonomy filters to display audience-specific content posed another challenge. To address this, we leveraged a search plugin to manage high-level attributes, ensuring that P/VP members and CAEAS-ECAB members only see relevant content.
Robust communication
Despite the challenges, the project’s successful implementation over nearly a year was incredibly rewarding.
ONE-T now boasts a robust communication channel with its members, ensuring that all employees, regardless of union status, can effectively plan for retirement and access critical health and mental health resources.
